Beating Holiday Depression

Holiday Depression

Six Ways to Beat Holiday Depression:

Holiday depression is a well known phenomenon. The following is a list of six ways to beat it.

1. Decorate your home with vibrant colors. Put up garlands. Display your Santa Clauses. Get that tree up early. Do this and say good-bye to holiday depression.
2. Remember to set boundaries. Particularly when addictions are an issues, remind relatives or friends that the beer, drugs, or cigarettes need to remain outside. They can come in, but all substances have to remain outside. There is nothing more depressing than being in contact with an alcoholic or a drug addict. You have the right to say no.
3. Set boundaries for yourself. Resist the temptation to indulge in that extra piece of pie or turkey.
4. Plan financially for the holidays. Resist the urge to overspend. Often, the simple gifts are the ones most appreciated. When my nephew John was two years old, he was given a beautiful toy in an elaborate box. He ignored the toy and played with the box.
5. Get into the spirit of worship. Remember that Jesus is the reason for the season.
6. Wear bright holiday colors. Red and yellow apparel will perk you up.

Say good-bye to holiday depression.
